Virgil van Dijk’s daughter causes havoc on live TV to leave Liverpool captain in stitches

Virgil van Dijk ’s daughter cheekily invaded LFCTV following Liverpool’s 3-0 victory over Aston Villa at the weekend.

The Reds eased to three points against Unai Emery ’s men on Sunday. Dominik Szoboszlai gave Liverpool the perfect start with his first goal for the club, with Matty Cash putting through his own net midway through the first half.

Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah rounded off the scoring in the second period to secure victory.

One man who did not contribute was captain Van Dijk. The Dutchman was suspended following his red card in the win against Newcastle at St James’ Park last time out.

Whilst Van Dijk’s contributions were limited, the same cannot be said of his daughter Jadi. The seven-year-old invaded LFCTV’s post-match analysis alongside Joe Gomez ’s young son Kyrie.

Former Liverpool defender David James attempted to get the pair involved in the conversation as he asked “What did you think of the game?”. His punditry colleague Ronnie Whelan then appeared to forget that Van Dijk wasn’t actually on the pitch as he then asked “Did your daddy play well?”

The camera then shot to defender Van Dijk who was standing some distance away on the pitch and appeared to be laughing. Presenter Mark Benstead then got back on track by joking: “I don’t know about the FA increasing his ban for the sending off and reaction at St James’ Park but poor control of children, that’s a ban in my book.”

James then replied: “At least he’s doing some extra training after the game!” Van Dijk had taken to social media ahead of kick-off to express his frustration at not being able to actually take to the pitch.

He wrote: “Gutted to miss the game. Hate not being able to contribute to the team. Obviously I can’t really comment on the circumstances around the suspension, I want to respect the process whilst it’s ongoing. I’ll be at Anfield supporting the boys. Big game. Come on the boys!”

Benstead also took to Instagram after seeing his live broadcast interrupted by the children. He wrote: “I’m prepared for most things in this job, but got to admit, being gatecrashed on live tv by @virgilvandijk junior was not one of them. The boy [Kyrie] has potential though – @davidjamesofficial & Ronnie watch out.”

As it stands, Van Dijk has now served his ban for the red card against Newcastle, but could potentially see his ban extended for his reaction to the dismissal. Whilst he is awaiting a decision, he will be in action for the Netherlands national team over the international break.

They take on Greece and the Republic of Ireland in Euro 2024 qualifiers over the next fortnight. Liverpool then resume their domestic action against Wolves at Molineux.
