Arsenal legend says Jurgen Klopp has surpassed Arsene Wenger ahead of Liverpool exit

A former Arsenal midfielder in Emmanuel Petit claimed that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp should now be viewed as the bigger Premier League legend ahead of Arsene Wenger

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp should be viewed as a bigger Premier League great than Arsenal icon Arsene Wenger, according to Gunners legend Emmanuel Petit.

Klopp’s glorious Reds reign is set to come to an end at the campaign’s conclusion, bringing to a close nine years at the helm.

In that time, the German coach has guided Liverpool to their first league title in three decades, as well as a Champions League triumph and multiple FA Cup and League Cup wins.

Arsene Wenger has more Premier League titles, while Jurgen Klopp is superior in Europe

The former Borussia Dortmund boss has managed to do so while sticking to his football philosophy and could still enjoy a fairytale farewell in May. Liverpool are firmly in the title race, sitting second behind Arsenal on goal difference and have already won this season’s Carabao Cup.

Klopp’s men are also stlll in contention for both the FA Cup and the Europa League. Regardless of what happens in those competitions, the Liverpool legend’s status as a Premier League great has already been secured.

Ask most fans and they will tell you the finest four managers to grace the English top flight are Sir Alex Ferguson, Pep Guardiola, Jose Mourinho and Wenger. Klopp has only won the title once, so some feel he is not on the same level as the aforementioned quartet.

However, Petit does not agree. Despite being a part of Wenger’s first title-winning team in England, the former Arsenal midfielder feels that Klopp has surpassed the Frenchman’s legacy. The ex-Gunner told OCB Scores : “You would have to say Arsene Wenger has been surpassed by Klopp because he has won the Premier League and Champions League as well as both the FA Cup and League Cup so it speaks for itself.

“Wenger won the Premier League three times and everybody remembers the Invincible year but they failed in their chance to win the Champions League final against Barcelona, that is the only difference between them.

Jurgen Klopp and Arsene Wenger are two Premier League legends

“But in terms of impact and how Wenger competed with Sir Alex Ferguson was incredible. The only comparison I can make is how Klopp has competed against Pep Guardiola. We need more rivalries like that because it makes the league the best in the world.”

Whatever happens now, Wenger will have more Premier League titles than Klopp having guided the Gunners to three, but the Liverpool manager has something the ex-Arsenal boss could never get his hands on – the Champions League.
