The agency is claimed to have reacted with a massive sum, estimated to be worth between €120 and €140 million. The figure is hardly surprising given his central role in Liverpool’s project and the length of his contract, which finishes in 2027.

Reaching such a level is impossible given Barcelona’s financial constraints, as Laporta informed Diaz’s agency. The president of Barça is believed to have stated, “It is not feasible.”

As previously noted, Diaz was a target for both Barça and Laporta when at FC Porto. However, the player was already in advanced negotiations with Liverpool when they made their offer, as revealed by the club president in November 2022.

There was no option. The commander-in-chief said, “He was a player who interested us when we arrived, but Liverpool already had very advanced negotiations with Porto.”
