Harvey Elliott suggests Liverpool’s FA Cup exit to Man Utd could have huge positive

Liverpool’s hopes of sealing a quadruple in Jurgen Klopp’s last season in charge bit the dust on Sunday when they were knocked out of the FA Cup quarter-finals in a 4-3 thriller at Old Trafford

Harvey Elliott believes Liverpool’s push for three trophies could benefit from their FA Cup exit.

Elliott, 20, was trying to put a brave face on their defeat at Manchester United as he says fewer games will leave them feeling “fresh” to chase down the Premier League title and their Europa League campaign.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp had been in the hunt for a quadruple until their FA Cup defeat but they have already played 46 games and will have at least 12 more ahead of their Europa League two-legged tie with Atalanta.

Harvey Elliott feels Liverpool could actually benefit from their FA Cup elimination to Manchester United

‌Elliott said: “Now we can focus on other things, it frees up a few weeks for us.‌ Not as many games any more so the lads can be fresh and we can recover properly and focus on the rest of the season.”

Liverpool’s defeat was only their third domestic loss of the season and of the two they lost in Europe one was a dead rubber against Union Saint-Gilloise.‌ They now have the international break before facing Brighton at Anfield on March 31 but the fixture list and having to reschedule games does not look quite as brutal.

‌Their league match at Fulham scheduled for April 20 will not be shunted into midweek, especially as the club still have a Merseyside derby at Goodison Park to fit in.‌ Elliott added: “Our confidence is always there, it isn’t going to affect us at all.

‌“We’re going to be annoyed that we didn’t win but we’re going away with internationals now, so we can forget about it and come back after the break fresh again ready to crack down and fight for the rest of the season.

“Confidence-wise it’s not going to do anything to us because we had the game in our hands, had many chances but just didn’t put them away. It’s always going to be there and we just need to keep going as a team.”
