Liverpool fans will have to wait until March 31st for our next match, as international games take precedence in the following weeks. But which Liverpool players have teamed up with their national teams?
Many Liverpool first-team players are leaving for international duty less than 24 hours after our heartbreaking defeat at Old Trafford.
With the Reds not playing again until March 31st (when Brighton visits Anfield), LFC – Back On Our Perch examines which Liverpool players will represent their country over the next two weeks.
Goalkeepers
Coaimhin Kelleher (Republic of Ireland) – Kelleher has been in terrific form for Liverpool in recent weeks, replacing the injured Alisson and making multiple world-class saves in crucial games. It is hardly surprising that he has been called up to the Ireland squad for the upcoming friendlies against Belgium and Switzerland.
Defenders
Joe Gomez (England) – Gomez has also impressed in recent weeks, playing in a variety of positions across the back four and midfield. His efforts have not gone unnoticed, as Gareth Southgate has finally recalled Gomez to the England team for games against Brazil and Belgium.
Jarell Quansah (England Under-21s) – Quansah’s remarkable progress has earned him another call-up to the England Under-21 squad.
Ibrahima Konate (France) – French center-back Konate has missed the last two of games due to injury, but it has not prevented him from being called up to the France squad for games against Germany and Chile. Everyone at Anfield hopes he doesn’t return with another injury.
Virgil van Dijk (Netherlands) Our Captain Fantastic is once again ready to captain Holland, who face Germany and Scotland in the coming weeks.
Kostas Tsimikas (Greece). Tsimikas may not have played much for Liverpool recently, but he will be a key figure for Greece when they face Kazakhstan in the Euro 2024 Playoffs.
Conor Bradley (Northern Ireland) – Bradley will attempt to add to his 13 international caps when Northern Ireland faces Romania and Scotland.
Midfielders
Wataru Endo (Japan) – Endo will be doing a lot of travelling over the next two weeks as our No. 6 captains Japan in their vital World Cup qualifiers against North Korea.
Dominik Szoboszlai (Hungary) – Szoboszlai, a Liverpool player who captains his country, will face Turkey and Montenegro for Hungary.
Harvey Elliott (England Under-21s) – Elliott will once again join the England Under-21s, but it is only a matter of time before Gareth Southgate promotes him to the entire England squad.
Bobby Clark (England Under-20s) – Clark’s recent development has earned him a call-up to England’s Under-20 side, who will face Poland and the Czech Republic.
Alexis Mac Allister (Argentina) – Our midfield dynamo will face El Salvador and Costa Rico. Both games are being played in the United States, thus he will be traveling less miles than usual.
Attackers
Luis Diaz (Columbia) – Diaz has been selected to play for Columbia in the upcoming internationals, but reports following the United game indicate he may be injured, thus he is unlikely to travel. We’ll provide you with more information when it becomes available.
Darwin Nunez (Uruguay) – Nunez was supposed to join his country’s squad to face Ivory Coast, but he was pulled in the last few hours owing to an injury.
Cody Gakpo (Netherlands) – Gakpo will join Van Dijk to represent the Netherlands. The youthful attacker has been struggling recently, so perhaps a change of environment can help him restore his form for the remainder of the season.
Jayden Danns (England Under-18s) – Danns’ recent performances in the Liverpool first team have earned him a call-up to the England Under-18 squad to compete in the Pinatar Super Cup, which will be held in Spain. Danns will be joined by fellow Liverpool players Amara Nallo and Trey Nyoni.
Lewis Koumas (Wales Under-21s) – Following his first Liverpool goal against Southampton, Koumas has received his first call-up to the Wales Under-21 squad.
