‘DREAM REUNION’: Speculations Rise as Xabi Alonso’s Potential Return to Liverpool Looms In Summer

As Alonso considers his next career step, he becomes embroiled in a power struggle between managers.

Klopp is leaving Liverpool at the end of the season, and Alonso has emerged as the overwhelming favorite to take over as manager at Anfield.

Because of his success at Bayer Leverkusen, he is now being considered by big European teams.

Liverpool and Bayern Munich are both interested in Thomas Tuchel, who led Leverkusen to the Bundesliga’s top spot.

Both teams are seeking a new manager as Tuchel’s contract expires in June. Reiner Calmund, a former Leverkusen manager, believes that Alonso should resist the temptation to return to Anfield and instead focus on continuing to develop at BayArena until Carlo Ancelotti departs Real Madrid.

He told Sport1 that if offered to go for Liverpool, Alonso would decline. Without a doubt, this is a good decision. Alonso won his third straight title with Bayern, having previously won with Liverpool and Milan. There is no doubt that these employers are quite interesting. The same goes for Real Madrid. We must wait and watch what happens there to see whether Ancelotti will resign sooner. As his agent, I may not constantly tell him to go to Liverpool to replace Klopp. I believe he should continue at Leverkusen for another year or two before perhaps taking over for Ancelotti.

Calmund said that Alonso would be at Leverkusen for the upcoming season, adding, “A lot of writing is going on.” Not everything is true. I don’t want to be the dream dancer, but I’m confident that Alonso will coach Leverkusen next season. He won the Champions League with Real Madrid throughout his playing career. Ancelotti’s contract with Real Madrid has been renewed. Right now, there is no danger.

Even though it is tempting to return to a former club such as Liverpool, more experienced players are urging Alonso to take a more balanced approach and consider his long-term career path rather than succumbing to immediate temptations. Alonso is at a crossroads because the managerial merry-go-round continues spinning around. But, for the time being, he remains committed to Leverkusen, who have won 35 consecutive games and are currently leading the Bundesliga title race. His next game is against Wolfsburg on Sunday night.
