Liverpool news: Reds urged to sell Trent Alexander-Arnold as Luis Diaz exit hint dropped

Liverpool return from the March international break with boss Jurgen Klopp facing several headaches ahead of the run-in, with his side challenging for the Premier League title

Liverpool are gearing up for their return from the international break, with their title hopes still on track.

But while boss Jurgen Klopp will have been pleased to see rivals Manchester City suffer a number of injuries, the German has problems of his own.

Andy Robertson was forced off during Scotland’s defeat to Northern Ireland.

It is unknown how long the left-back might be sidelined for, with Klopp also facing headaches of another kind. Reds icon Steve Nicol has called for Trent Alexander-Arnold to be sold this summer, insisting Conor Bradley is ready to step up.

That demand comes as the father of Luis Diaz admitted he wants his son to move to a Spanish club. Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest Liverpool news.

Reds urged to sell Alexander-Arnold
Liverpool have been urged to sell vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold in the summer. The right-back has been a key player in the era of success under Jurgen Klopp’s management and is a trusted lieutenant of the German.

But four-time league title winner Steve Nicol believes it is now time to cash in. Nicol, who spent more than a decade at Anfield, believes that youngster Conor Bradley can replace the England international.

He told ESPN: “Trent Alexander-Arnold isn’t a good defender. If Madrid were to offer, I don’t know, £60, £70, £80m when you have a young kid in Conor Bradley, who is a miles better defender, great going forward, but in the same class as Trent.”

Liverpool have been handed a fresh injury headache after Andy Robertson was forced off while playing for Scotland. Robertson captained his country in their friendly against Northern Ireland at Hampden Park on Tuesday night.

But his evening was cut short after he appeared to injure his left ankle in a challenge with Sunderland full-back Trai Hume in the 30th minute. Though he tried to carry on, he was eventually subbed off, with boss Steve Clarke admitting the seriousness of the problem is not yet known.

“He’s just come off the pitch. Let’s let the injury take its course. He’ll go back to his club and they’ll assess him,” the Scotland boss said after his side’s defeat. “Hopefully it’s not too serious.”

Diaz exit hint dropped
The father of Luis Diaz has disclosed his hope that the attacker will leave Liverpool and move to Spain. Diaz joined in January 2022 and has starred for the Reds, but his family are eyeing a potential transfer to Spain.

“There was never anything serious with Real Madrid or Atlético [in 2022],” Mane Diaz told Cadena Ser (via The Sun). “Liverpool were always more determined and concrete to sign Luis.

“We haven’t lost our hope yet…” he added. “Luis is playing well and Spanish clubs are always active in the market.”
