Liverpool is reportedly prepared to break the British transfer record in their quest to find a replacement for Mohamed Salah, according to a recent report.

Salah has once again proven to be Liverpool’s standout performer this season, contributing significantly with 22 goals and 13 assists across all competitions.

Despite rebuffing a verbal offer of £150 million for the Egyptian forward last summer, Liverpool could find themselves in another battle to retain the services of the 31-year-old at the end of the current season.

With Salah’s contract set to expire in 2025 and no agreement yet reached on an extension, there is speculation that Saudi Arabia could renew their interest in him during the upcoming transfer window.

Consequently, Liverpool may opt to cash in on Salah this summer rather than risk losing him for free the following year.

In the event of Salah’s departure, Sport has reported that Liverpool has identified Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr. as their preferred replacement.

The publication suggests that Liverpool, along with Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, are willing to table a staggering offer of €200 million (£171 million) to secure the services of the Brazilian winger.

However, it’s improbable that Liverpool would be willing to match such a hefty price tag, particularly given Jurgen Klopp’s assertion back in February that the club lacks the financial resources to pursue a player of Kylian Mbappe’s caliber from PSG.

Furthermore, the report from Sport indicates that Real Madrid has no intention of parting ways with Vinicius and instead aims to extend his current contract until 2029.

Interestingly, Vinicius himself expressed a desire to remain at Real Madrid for the foreseeable future or potentially return to his former club, Flamengo, in Brazil.

In an interview with France Football and L’Equipe last year, Vinicius stated, “I think I could stay here my whole career, but the club of my life is Flamengo. I promised my father I would go back one day. I have to keep this promise.”

He further expressed his contentment with life in Madrid, highlighting the unique atmosphere and fervor surrounding the club, as well as the support and recognition his family receives.

Despite Liverpool’s reported interest in Vinicius Jr., the Brazilian’s strong ties to Real Madrid and his affinity for the club and its culture could potentially complicate any potential transfer negotiations.
