According to data from the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), Cristiano Ronaldo reached a maximum speed of 32.7 km/h at EURO 2024. This parameter is outside the top 100 fastest players in the tournament to date. However, for a player about to turn 40, this is still an impressive number.
Compared to Ronaldo himself, the maximum speed he achieved at EURO 2024 was higher than at his peak. Since UEFA started collecting data on player speed at the EURO 2012 finals, CR7 has never achieved a parameter of 32.7 km/h like in this tournament.
Specifically, at EURO 2012, Ronaldo’s maximum speed was 32 km/h. The speed of the Portuguese superstar at EURO 2016 and EURO 2020 is 29.1 km/h and 29.7 km/h respectively.
At EURO 2024, Ronaldo has not scored after 2 main matches. In the match against the Czech Republic, the superstar born in 1985 had the opportunity to become the oldest player to score at EURO, when he dribbled the ball against the goalkeeper.
However, CR7 chose to pass the ball to his former teammate at Man Utd, Bruno Fernandes, to score into an empty goal.
Ronaldo denied the chance to score but still reached another impressive record. He is the player with the most assists in EURO (8), equaling the achievement of former Czech player Karel Poborsky.
“I think Cristiano Ronaldo has never been selfish. In that moment, he decided to pass the ball. If he had shot straight, it would have been a completely correct decision. Ronaldo is the number one scorer, but when he has the opportunity, he always knows how to make the best decision for the team,” Bruno Fernandes said about the captain.
