According to Graeme Bailey, Liverpool has initiated talks with Chelsea about signing Levi Colwill this summer.
The Reds are thought to be interested in signing a new defender during this transfer window, particularly after Joel Matip’s departure.
The Merseyside club already has Jarell Quansah and Ibrahima Konate, so it looks they are looking to recruit a new left-sided defender to back up Virgil van Dijk, since they have been linked with a few left-footed center-backs in recent weeks.
According to Bailey’s report on HITC, Liverpool has identified Colwill as a genuine target and has already conducted negotiations with Chelsea to ‘enquire’ about the details of signing him.
The Englishman is reputedly worth roughly £40 million, and if Liverpool can secure his talents for the stated cost, it would be a fantastic deal, given his current age and potential.
However, Colwill is not the only option on the Reds’ wishlist to reinforce their defence; LOSC Lille player Leny Yoro is also on their radar, but Real Madrid are thought to be the favourites to sign him.
Liverpool has had a long-term interest in Colwill, and they were linked with a deal for him last year. However, the defender eventually elected to stay with his childhood club.

The Chelsea star is a natural centre-back, but he played numerous games as a left-back last season due to Ben Chilwell’s injury.
The 21-year-old is comfortable playing out of the back and makes strong defensive contributions, so his acquisition would undoubtedly bolster Liverpool’s backline if he is signed this summer.
