Admits shock transfer ‘want’ to Mac Allister

Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has expressed his desire to reunite with Boca Juniors at some stage during his career journey.

Having transitioned to Anfield from Brighton & Hove Albion last summer, the Argentine footballer clinched his inaugural trophy with Liverpool, celebrating a 1-0 victory over Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final.

Mac Allister, 25, initially moved to Brighton from Argentinos Juniors in 2019, embarking on a brief loan stint at Boca Juniors before rejoining his Seagulls comrades. Although the loan arrangement was intended to span a full season, Brighton opted for an early recall.

During his time on loan at Boca Juniors, the Argentine midfielder made 20 appearances, contributing with two goals and four assists.

Now, he openly admits his longing to return to the club he cherished while growing up, potentially marking a poignant chapter as he nears the twilight of his playing days.

Speaking to TyC Sports, Mac Allister acknowledged his inclination towards a Boca Juniors reunion, tempered by the uncertainty of the future: “I don’t like to promise that I will return because the reality is that there is still a long way to go, but anything can happen. Obviously, the desire is there, especially because my time in Boca was very short and I would have liked to be there more, but time will tell if I have that possibility and they give it to me.”

Notably, both Mac Allister’s father and brother, Kevin, have graced the Boca Juniors turf, with the siblings concurrently on loan at the club in 2019. Despite his familial ties to Boca, the Liverpool star remains under contract at Anfield for another four-and-a-half years, committing to the Reds until 2028 after his transfer from Brighton.

Since his arrival at Liverpool, Mac Allister has featured in 30 matches under Jurgen Klopp’s management, contributing six goals to the team’s cause.
