The rationale behind Bruno Fernandes’ evasion of a potential red card during the Manchester United-Liverpool match has come to light.
Reports indicate that Bruno Fernandes, the Manchester United captain, narrowly escaped being sent off for a tackle on Dominik Szoboszlai during the FA Cup encounter.
Lee Dixon has provided insight into why he thinks Bruno Fernandes managed to avoid a second yellow card in the Manchester United vs. Liverpool game.
Despite being cautioned earlier in the match, Fernandes managed to evade another booking for a challenge on Dominik Szoboszlai in the latter half of the game.
Dixon, who offered commentary during the match, commended Fernandes’ stroke of fortune in dodging a yellow card but opined that it didn’t warrant a straight red.
He mentioned that such incidents are commonplace on the field, and although VAR might scrutinize them, it didn’t intervene in this instance.
Dixon also remarked that had a similar tackle taken place elsewhere on the field and Fernandes not been previously booked, he would undoubtedly have been cautioned.
He expressed certainty that if such a challenge had occurred near the halfway line, the referee would have opted to issue a caution.
