Liverpool are close to signing Rio Ngumoha from Chelsea… with the 15-year-old winger one of the most-touted stars in the Blues’ academy

Liverpool is in talks with Chelsea to sign one of English football’s most highly rated young talents, 15-year-old Rio Ngumoha.

Chelsea, who have constantly invested heavily on young players under Todd Boehly’s ownership, are thought to be upset over the potential of losing Ngumoha.

If a deal is reached, Ngumoha will join on a scholar’s contract, and he is claimed to be motivated by the pathway and chances available at Liverpool, particularly a second-string team of youths who won the Carabao Cup final against Chelsea last season.

Liverpool has a rigid salary structure and strategy for emerging stars, and it is unlikely that they will violate it to sign Ngumoha, who has previously played for Chelsea’s Under 21 team.

It continues Liverpool’s pattern of acquiring quality young players from around the country, as seen with Trey Nyoni and Amara Nallo from Leicester and West Ham, respectively, last summer.

Bobby Clark, Kaide Gordon, Ben Doak, and James McConnell were all signed in their midteens.

After Brexit restrictions changed the way football clubs can exchange young players, Liverpool increased its investment in talent scouting throughout the UK. According to youth football analysts, Ngumoha is among the top players in his age group.
