Jordan Henderson has driven all the way from Amsterdam to Berlin to watch his old international teammates face destiny.
The Ajax player, who was left out of England’s Euro 2024 squad, failed to get flights to Germany’s capital and took matters into his own hands, jumping in a hire van with his young children to support Gareth Southgate’s team.
It took the former Liverpool captain about eight hours to get here by road, but he was keen to cheer on his England teammates.
Henderson has been one of the most influential figures in Southgate’s term as England manager, and his absence from the Euros squad came as a surprise.
He won the final of his 81 caps against Malta in November.

Kyle Walker, who replaced Henderson as England’s vice captain, told talkSPORT last week: “I have heard some of them are coming out to support us, which shows great credit to them as individuals.”
‘Obviously, not being here is a disappointment, but it demonstrates the unity that we have, as they continue to want to come and support us.
‘I know a lot of players would be sitting sulking and thinking, ‘I wish I was there,’ but they want to come and experience the pleasure, especially if we win. I am confident they will be in the dressing room afterwards, celebrating because they deserve it and have contributed to it.’
