Liverpool are searching for a new manager after Jurgen Klopp announced he will be stepping down at the end of the season and Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso has been heavily linked with the role.
Liverpool are stepping up their plans for next season during the international break, with Jurgen Klopp set to leave the club this summer.
Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes are leading their search for a new manager and a host of names have been linked with the vacancy.
However, Liverpool do still have plenty to play for this season with two trophies still up for grabs.
Just one point separates Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City in the Premier League, while the Reds are set to face Atalanta next month in the quarter-finals of the Europa League. Here’s the latest from Anfield.
Alonso ‘makes decision’
According to Sky Germany, Xabi Alonso is more ‘likely’ to join Bayern Munich than Liverpool this summer.
Both Bayern and Liverpool are searching for a new manager and Alonso has been heavily linked with the two clubs after impressing as Bayer Leverkusen boss. His side are currently ten points clear of Bayern at the top of the Bundesliga as they look to win the league for the first time in their history.
And the report claims that Bayern are ‘optimistic’ about their chances of persuading Alonso to become their new manager and that he would ‘likely’ pick them over Liverpool if he does decide to leave Leverkusen.

Robertson loses cool
Reds star Andrew Robertson was not happy after Scotland were thrashed 4-0 by the Netherlands on Friday.
“I’m feeling anger and disappointment,” Robertson fumed after the game. “We can’t come away to these big teams and play the way we did. We have completely opened up at the end. The fact we’ve walked off 4-0 is unbelievable.

“It’s impossible for it to happen. We need to have a look at it. We can’t keep doing this. In the last couple of games, we’ve shipped quite a lot of goals. People looking at that result will think it was one-sided. We need to take a look at it and sort it out.”

Sven makes title prediction
Former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has backed Liverpool to win the Premier League this season.
“I think Liverpool will win the league,” Eriksson said, having managed a Liverpool legends side at Anfield on Saturday. “They can’t win the FA Cup unfortunately. They play very good football. Young players coming, players which I never saw.
“Suddenly they put them in very important games as well. You need a lot of courage to do that. It’s nice to see that. Liverpool is great and Liverpool will be great, even in the future, looking at the young players.”
