Steven Gerrard was in action for Liverpool Legends as they beat their Ajax counterparts 4-2 in a charity match at Anfield on Saturday afternoon

Steven Gerrard has confessed that he doesn’t know how many more times he’ll get to wear a Liverpool shirt at Anfield after his latest game.

Gerrard was part of the Liverpool Legends team that beat Ajax 4-2 in an exciting charity match for the LFC.

Foundation, with nearly 60,000 fans watching at Anfield. It was a special day, with ex-England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson realising his dream of managing the Reds and Fernando Torres scoring in front of the Kop once more.

It was also a big day for Gerrard, even though he didn’t score. The 43-year-old said he’s starting to wonder how much longer he’ll be able to put on his boots and play on the Anfield pitch.

When asked if he enjoys the games more as he gets older, he told Liverpool’s official website: “Yeah, because I know I’m only going to play in front of this crowd another couple of times maybe. That’s if I stay off the carbs and stay off the beers!

“I was just looking round at the end thinking to myself, ‘This is going to [happen] less and less so just savour every moment.’ It was brilliant.”, reports Liverpool.com.

Gerrard also explained why he likes taking part, saying: “There’s three things. You want to come and play with your mates again. You obviously want to come for the cause, to help raise as much money.

“But the opportunity to play in front of these fans again, that’s the buzz. I was on the flight, I was like a big kid coming over. Six-and-a-half-hour flight, I couldn’t wait to get here. That’s what it’s all about.”

Gerrard’s presence was also driven by a desire to play under former England manager Eriksson for one last time, following his terminal cancer diagnosis.

“It’s all for a good cause, we’ve got to remember why we’re here we’re here for a good cause.,” he said. “There’s going to be a lot of money raised today going to go to some fantastic causes.

“Sven being here today was very special; as soon as I knew he was going to be the gaffer today, I couldn’t wait to come and play for him one more time.”
