Virgil van Dijk names the three favourites for Euro 2024 as ‘really good’ claim made
Virgil van Dijk hopes the Netherlands can be up there too.
The Netherlands came from behind to beat Poland in their Group D clash on Sunday.
Poland took the lead through Adam Buksa in the 16th minute but they didn’t hold onto their lead for very long.
In the 29th minute, Liverpool ace Cody Gakpo levelled proceedings before the Dutch grabbed all three points late on in the second-half.
Former Manchester United player Wout Weghorst, who enjoyed a loan spell at Old Trafford in the 2022/23 season, scored his side’s winner seven minutes from time as he made an instant impact off the bench.
Van Dijk, who captained his team against Poland, hopes the Netherlands will be in contention to go all the way as he name-checked three nations who he considers as the favourites to win the tournament.
The star defender selected England, Germany and France.
Speaking before the Netherlands’ 2-1 victory over Poland, he revealed: “Are we favorites? England are really good, Germany, France… but so many other aspects will play a part too. Hopefully we can be up there too.”
England and France, who have both yet to play in Germany, are among the favourites to win Euro 2024.

The tournament hosts, however, have already kicked off their campaign as they destroyed Scotland 5-1 as they laid down a marker.
Florian Wirtz, Jamal Musiala, Kai Havertz, Niclas Fullkrug and Emre Can all got on the score-sheet in their rout of Scotland last Friday.
Euro 2024 expectations had been low for Germany despite their remarkable history in the competition.
But their impressive victory against Scotland have increased expectation.
