Why is Sven Goran Eriksson in charge of the team?
The former England and Man City manager revealed in January that he was suffering from terminal pancreatic cancer, with doctors only able to slow the progression of the disease and manage its symptoms. In an emotional interview Eriksson divulged that he was a Liverpool supporter and it is the one job he wised he had been able to land in his career.

The Swede said: “My father is still a Liverpool supporter and I am a Liverpool supporter too, always have been,” he said. So I always wished to be the manager of Liverpool and that will not happen, but I’m still a Liverpool fan.”

The Reds have looked to at least fulfil his wish in part as he joins the coaching staff for the game against Ajax. Jurgen Klopp was pleased with the move, but following Eriksson’s revelation noted that he would be happy to facilitate some time in the first team hotseat.

Klopp said: “The only thing I can say is absolutely he’s very welcome to come here and he can sit in my seat in my office and do my job for a day if he wants. That’s no problem.

“Being on the sideline might be a little bit more difficult. To have him here and show him everything and how this wonderful club developed over the years, I think that’s definitely something we will tell him.”
